SHADES AND SHADOWS

Date: April 09, 2005
Product Description:
Since leaving her abusive husband, stunning twenty-nine-year-old Jade Winters has focused on her career as the owner and instructor at a small dance school in downtown Chicago. She's also vowed to avoid men--until handsome ad exec Noel Merson walks into her studio, and her life. From a lunch date to a summer spent falling in love, Jade and Noel enjoy a passionate connection beyond their greatest expectations, even as they each struggle to overcome past wounds. But for Jade, the summer is also filled with strange events, unsettling dreams, and most disturbing of all, the sensation of being watched. When Jade's husband. Peter, reappears, and then Noel is attacked by an unknown assailant in a jealous rage, the mystery seems solved--and Jade's new relationship seems over. But after speaking to Peter, Jade is convinced that he is not responsible. Now all she has to do is find out who is. The answer may save her love--and her life.

Knowledge Insights:
Sophia Shaw has released her debut novel, Shades and Shadows. It is a book that Sophia started as a hobby over ten years ago. As an avid reader, she was inspired by many of the great romantic writers, and was convinced she could write a story that was engrossing and enjoyable. Shades and Shadows is that story.

Sophia was born in Jamaica and immigrated with her family to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1974. She attended Claude Watson School for the Arts and studied dance, art and drama. She then went to the University of Toronto where she graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology. She is married to 'The Juiceman' Jonathan Shaw. They live in Brampton, Ontario with their young daughter, Sierra.

In 2003, Sophia was accepted by Sha-Shana Crichton of Crichton and Associates Literary Agents. In early 2004, she signed her first book deal with Kensington Publishing/Dafina. Her second book is currently in progress.

Knowledge Staff Review:
Usually I don't read romance novels. But as I turned the pages of Mrs. Shaw’s debut effort I found myself increasingly drawn into this tale of love and trust.

Since escaping an emotional and physically abusive marriage, Jade Winters has kept pretty much to herself over the past four years. Pouring all her time and energy into teaching dance at the school she owns. Noel Merson is young, successful, dating a lot of women and still very much alone. After being betrayed by his fiancé years ago Noel had not allowed himself to feel the same love that had lead to so much pain.

Neither Jade or Noel was looking for love or expecting it when they met, but that is just what happened. If only they knew falling in love was the easiest part, the true test would be letting go of their past relationships and finding the strength and courage to trust each other.

Mrs. Shaw's style of writing is refreshingly realistic; the dialogue will make you feel as if you were eavesdropping on a private conversation. The story line steadily unfolds as Mrs. Shaw takes readers on a romantic journey while subtly injecting elements of suspense guaranteed to keep readers guessing and looking over their shoulders.

The author then brings the novel to an explosive conclusion that will not disappoint; I look forward to more work from this unconventional romance writer.
